Leave your Legacy!

Leave Your Legacy

August is Leave Your Legacy month. I don’t know how it came about or what the history of it is but I like it!

Not to get depressing but we ain’t gonna be around forever. We may have decades, years, months – who knows? Using a month as a cue to prod us to think about what we want to leave behind is a good idea in my books.

What do you think of when you think of legacy? My first thought goes to a rich couple leaving their estate to a foundation of some sort and who would in turn have a building named after them or some such grandiose thing.

Of course, that’s a small piece of the pie. A legacy, your legacy, is bigger than that – it’s a piece of you that is left in the hearts and minds of those you leave behind. It cannot be spent or used up – it’s a permanent fixture, an imprint that builds on the foundation of those who have left their legacy with you.

The bar is held high then. What do we want to leave with our children, our friends, our families? It’s more than how we want them to remember us – it’s the combined impact and influence of all we have contributed and all that we were to them during our life.

  • It’s asking, “What would ___do in this situation?”
  • It’s cultivating a sense of fun, adventure, free-spiritedness.
  • It’s permission to be yourself.
  • It’s a spirit of acceptance, of service, of understanding.

The money we leave would be appreciated of course, maybe preferred – lol, but the legacy we can leave is priceless and its value is incalculable.

Share your values, talk about what matters to you, open up your minds to conversations that matter with people that matter to you.

What kind of legacy are you going to leave our world, your people? Think about it, don’t wait – start cultivating it now.

Leaving your legacy, it’s one more way to live Your Life, Unlimited!
